In 2016, I lost my beloved grandmother to Alzheimer's. I missed her funeral because I was too consumed with work and professional ambitions.
This was a wake-up call. I re-evaluated my life and made changes. As a result, I traveled the world snowboarding and teaching yoga. And I committed to supporting one of the Alzheimer’s Association’s signature fundraisers, The Longest Day.
The Longest Day takes place every year on June 21, the day of the year with the most sunlight — the summer solstice. On the Longest Day, thousands of participants across the globe honor Alzheimer’s caregivers since for some caregivers, every day seems like the longest day. We each pick an activity to dedicate toward the Alzheimer’s Association, in order to fight the darkness of Alzheimer's.
As a yogi, my Longest Day activity is practicing and teaching yoga. But my Longest Day is not just one day. This year, I am dedicating two whole months to The Longest Day. In May and June 2019, I will donate 100% of my earnings from teaching at Gen Yoga to the Alzheimer’s Association. And on June 21, I’ll hold a special donation yoga class with some of my fellow teachers at Gen. This will be especially fitting since June 21 also happens to be International Yoga Day.
Pledge an activity. Pick an activity that you love and want to do on The Longest Day! (Your activity does not have to be yoga.)
Take a class at Gen Yoga. I will donate all my earnings during May and June to the Alzheimer’s Association. I teach at Gen Yoga on Mondays at 9:30am; Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 7:30pm; and Fridays at 8:30am. You can find my entire teaching schedule and book a class here: http://bit.ly/2vvaNZ2.
Register for the special donation class. My Longest Day donation yoga class will be extra special since it’s International Day of Yoga. Join us 6-9pm on Friday, January 21. Register here: genyogatx.com/workshops.
